Zito to request additional assistant coach for Asante Kotoko

-

Newly appointed Technical Director of Asante Kotoko, Abdul Karim Zito, has announced his intention to request the addition of another assistant coach to the club’s technical team.

Zito, who replaces Prosper Narteh Ogum, was officially unveiled in his new role and will work alongside Prince Owusu, the former head coach of Medeama SC and Inter Allies, who will serve as his assistant.

His appointment follows the departure of former assistant coaches Asare Wilson and Abu Imoro, who exited their roles after Ogum’s dismissal.

Addressing the media at his unveiling, Zito stressed the importance of expanding the coaching staff, citing global best practices.

“It is only in Ghana that we work with a maximum of seven technical staff. In other countries that they visited or went to learn, they always have more,” he said.

“Immediately after this press conference, I am going to request one more assistant. I always like to consult with my assistants before making substitutions.

“When on the touchline, I turn to them and discuss the choice of substitute and other adjustments with them before going ahead,” Zito concluded.

Zito brings a wealth of experience to the role, having won five league titles, two FA Cups, and the CAF Champions League in 1982 as a player with Asante Kotoko. Most recently, he guided Dreams FC to the semifinals of the CAF Confederation Cup.

He now sets his sights on making an immediate impact as Kotoko prepares to face Aduana FC in a crucial Matchday 29 encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium this Sunday.
