A group calling itself the Eastern Youth for Development Association is advocating for the creation of a new region [Eastern West Region] from the existing Eastern region.
According to them, their main objective as a youth group is to champion the development of the region and therefore believe their call is in the right direction.
In a statement, the group stated the significant population and land size validates their call.
They argued that, the region’s development has not kept pace with its growth, hence the need for the new region to stimulate development.
“As agent for development in the region, we strongly believe that the carving of a new region from the Eastern region will immensely contribute to the socio economic development of the people in the new region and go a long way to help alleviate poverty by bridging the gap between the districts and the regional capital with additional development in infrastructure,” portions of the statement read.
Meanwhile, they have announced plans to petition all the aspirants of the various political parties with a proposed name and 16 districts to cover the new region, showing their full commitment to achieving this objective.
They have also called on all citizens and stakeholders of the proposed new region to rally behind them.
