You might think that the key to having a faithful relationship is making sure both sides are content. Being trapped in a sex-less situation is bound to create frustrations which lead to infidelity… right? Well, not according to a new study by Florida State University.
Researchers claim that you’re more likely to play away if you’re already sexually satisfied, because better sex means you want more of it.
Yep, your epic sex skills are what’s driving your partner to seek it out elsewhere, apparently. They’ve studied 233 newlyweds over three and a half years, and have come up with some pretty startling results which span across a range of infidelity indicators.
For men, however, it’s the more ‘attractive’ dudes who are more likely to stray. In one test, researchers showed couples photos of attractive people and recorded how long they looked at them for.
They found that a person who looked at an attractive person for just a few hundred milliseconds longer was up to 50% more likely to cheat than someone who voluntarily stopped looking at the photo.
But that’s not to say that the urge to cheat is beyond your control. The scientists say that by practicing techniques of ‘attentional disengagement (avoiding thinking about how attractive someone is) and ‘evaluative devaluation (downplaying their attractiveness) can prevent you from acting on your desires.
So, worrying news for literally everyone who has good sex.
