Member of Parliament for Kpando, Della Sowah, has extended her congratulations to Vice President-Elect, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, on her historic election.
Following the Electoral Commission’s declaration on Monday, December 9, 2024, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang has become Ghana’s first female Vice President, a milestone in the nation’s political history.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Della Sowah expressed her belief that this achievement will open doors for women in Ghana and across the continent.
She commended Prof. Opoku-Agyemang for inspiring countless others and demonstrating that women can aspire to and achieve the highest positions in leadership.
Reflecting on Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s political journey, Della Sowah highlighted her entry into politics in 2013 as Minister for Education under President John Mahama’s administration.
During her tenure, she made significant contributions to Ghana’s educational sector.
As a former Deputy Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Della Sowah noted that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s election signifies a monumental step for Ghana in promoting gender balance and equality.
She remarked that this achievement is exemplary not only for Ghana but also for the African continent, serving as an inspiration for women to aim for leadership positions regardless of the challenges they may face.
Della Sowah also acknowledged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leadership and former President John Mahama for their confidence in Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s capabilities.
She concluded with optimism, expressing confidence that Ghana’s first female Vice President will leave an indelible mark and a legacy of transformational leadership.
