You should have resigned by now if…. – Mahama to Bawumia

-

Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has asserted that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia should have resigned by now.

The former President has said that given the economic mess and the claims of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer that his advice was ignored, he [Bawumia] shouldn’t have been part of the ruling government as of now.

According to Mr Mahama, Dr Bawumia’s resignation would have proven to Ghanaians that he is indeed a principled person who has the interest of citizens at heart.

But since he failed to do so, he cannot in any way exempt himself from the current economic hardship Ghanaians are grappling with.

“In 2016, Bawumia was giving lectures about how to stabilise and grow the economy stabilise the currency and today you cannot talk about the economy.

“Head of the Economic Management Team and now you say that you gave your advice and if they didn’t take it, is not your fault. Government does not work like that; it is one of collective responsibility,” he said.

Speaking directly on Dr Bawumia’s argument of being a driver’s mate, Mr Mahama says, all the lectures he held when Akufo-Addo was seeking power should remind him of contributing to the crisis.

“If you give your advice and things are not going well, you resign, that is what a principled person will do.

“If you give your advise and they don’t take it and things are not going well, you don’t stay in the boat until it is sinking and you say you gave your advise; you should have jumped out of the boat,” he stated.

John Mahama who has been critical about the current government’s performance, has said the country has been run into a ditch; and, none of the appointees should attempt extricating themselves from the gross failure and mismanagement.

Mr Mahama who is currently on a tour in the Upper West region has charged electorates to pay more attention to the NDC’s rescue mission agenda and reject the NPP.
