You need jobs not allowances – Mahama to trainee nurses

-

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama has urged trainee nurses to prioritise job security over receiving allowances.

Addressing a group of trainees, the former President acknowledged their financial challenges but emphasised the need for sustainable job opportunities in the healthcare sector.

“We know the problems with trainee nurses, and that’s why, when we were in government, we proposed replacing your allowances with student loans. Our goal was to create more employment opportunities for you. What matters most is securing a job after you finish school, not just the allowance,” he stated.

However, he criticised the ruling government for failing to fulfil its promises to pay trainees allowances, adding that some are owed up to 30 months.

Mr Mahama further assured that, his next administration would prioritise job creation within the healthcare sector to ensure stable and rewarding careers.

He also pledged commitment to complete abandoned hospital projects, including the Agenda 111 hospitals, to create more employment.

“This election is between Ghana and the NPP,” Mahama concluded, stressing the stakes of the upcoming election.
