A Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Bossman Asare, has said they do not need political parties to entirely place their trust in them to discharge their duties.
According to him, the EC’s track record is evident and speaks for itself when it comes to election-related issues in Ghana.
Dr Asare made this remark on Adom TV Badwam show, while to concerns about the 2024 voter register, particularly from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“You don’t have to trust the Commission but what we are saying is that should look at our works. We are not going to keep the register. We’ll make it available to all the parties and even individuals can request for it,” he stated.
Despite calls for political parties to build trust in the EC ahead of the December 7 election, the NDC Director of IT and Elections, Dr Edward Omane Boamah has said the party does not trust the Commission to resolve its issues.
Dr Boamah stated that, the EC has given the NDC enough grounds to doubt its competence and capability to ensure a free, transparent and credible election.
However, Dr Asare has argued that neither the EC nor any of its officials have plans to embark on a fraudulent activity to manipulate the election or build mistrust.
