Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, has criticized those opposing businessman Richard Jakpa’s role in leading operations at the homes of former government appointees.
According to Gbande, critics are simply afraid of Jakpa and are attempting to undermine him.
He questioned what wrong Jakpa had committed, stating that a thief doesn’t decide who arrests them, and that it is solely the prerogative of President Mahama to change Jakpa’s position.
Gbande firmly believes Jakpa will continue his work impartially, despite the criticisms.
“If I was the one leading it, would they have been happy? Do they have to disparage him instead of looking at the substance of what he’s doing?” he asked.
He also condemned remarks by Afenyo-Markin, stating it was demeaning to suggest soldiers on official duty would steal money, and insisted that Jakpa would bring accountability to those involved in any wrongdoing.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned Jakpa’s involvement in recent searches, which they have called “raids” on the homes of former appointees.
Despite criticism, Deputy Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Justice Srem Sai, defended the operation, clarifying that it was conducted in accordance with the law and that a warrant had been procured.
