Yellow Ghana proposes alternative to NDC’s 24 – hour economy policy

-

The leader of Yellow Ghana, Samuel Apea-Danquah, has proposed an alternative to the 24-hour economy policy championed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

He asserts that, the NDC’s 24-hour economy policy goals can be effectively achieved through two of Yellow Ghana’s proposed labour reforms.

According to the independent Presidential aspirant, their labour reforms, specifically Maximum Working Hours and a Freeze on Overtime, as outlined on Page 83 of their manifesto, can more effectively achieve sustainable job creation and economic stability.

In a Facebook post, Yellow Ghana elaborated on their “Maximum Working Hours” policy: “By setting a cap on the number of working hours per week, we ensure that employees are not overworked and have a balanced life. This policy promotes better health, higher productivity, and a more motivated workforce. It also encourages businesses to hire more employees to meet their operational needs, thereby creating more jobs.”

Apea-Danquah highlighted the benefits of the “Freeze on Overtime” policy, stating, “Implementing a freeze on overtime prevents the exploitation of workers and ensures that businesses do not rely on excessive overtime to meet their targets. This policy promotes the hiring of additional staff, spreading employment opportunities more evenly, and reducing unemployment rates.”

Additionally, Yellow Ghana’s labour reforms include increasing the minimum wage to $3.55 per day, with automatic adjustments.

This initiative aims to ensure workers receive a living wage, securing a decent standard of living.

By focusing on fair wages, the party seeks to enhance citizens’ quality of life and boost economic growth through increased consumer spending.

The statement emphasized that Yellow Ghana’s objective is not just to create jobs for statistical purposes but to ensure these jobs provide wages that guarantee a decent standard of living.

“Yellow Ghana’s approach is grounded in practicality and fairness, aiming to create a robust economy where every citizen can thrive.”
