Y’asem Nie: Taxes killing our business – Bakers cry [video]

Some bakers in Ghana are complaining about high taxes imposed on the importation of flour and other products used in baking.

According to them, the trend if not checked by the government, will push them out of business.

Comfort Adu, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of C-Donkor Bakery and Peace Amegya, CEO of Hot Oven Bakery and Sweets revealed this on Y’asem Nie, a segment on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem programme, Wednesday.

The experienced bakers with 43 and 25 years experience respectively said the price of flour and other products used in baking bread had been increased about five times within this month, which is making them run at a loss.

Madam Adu noted that, a bag of flour is now about GH¢165.00. She added that the price of sugar and margarine are also sky-rocketing.

On her part, madam Amegya said they will be forced to reduce the size of the bread to enable them make profit if nothing is done about the price hike.
