Yagbonwura pays courtesy call on President Mahama

The Overlord of Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on President John Dramani Mahama at his private office in Accra to congratulate him on his assumption of the highest office of the land.

The Overlord, accompanied by a delegation of chiefs from his kingdom, had participated in the President’s inauguration on January 7 at Independence Square in Accra.

The Yagbonwura’s delegation included paramount chiefs from his kingdom, namely: Damongowura Kelly Seidu Boresa I, Mankpanwura Achode Borenyi I, Kulawwura Kotokyi Borewunche I, and Kekpandewura Shaibu Baba Mumuni Kanyiti I.

Also present were the Yagbon Imam (Supreme Imam of the Gonja Kingdom), Sheik Alhaji Abdulai Kassim, and the Yagbonwura’s Linguist, Sulemana Adam.

The Yagbonwura offered his blessings and full support to his son, President Mahama, as he officially begins his duties. He wished the President success in all his endeavors.

President Mahama expressed gratitude to the Yagbonwura for honoring him with his presence at the inauguration.

He noted that at the appropriate time, he would visit Gonjaland to pay his respects to the Yagbonwura and receive his counsel to ensure a successful tenure that fosters peace and progress for all Ghanaians.

“And so, I want to thank my father for this visit and for coming to grace the occasion,” President Mahama said.

“It makes me proud that the whole of Ghana witnessed our Overlord and King attend and sit gracefully throughout the ceremony.”

He also expressed gratitude to the chiefs and imams who accompanied the Yagbonwura to the inauguration.
