Dancehall artiste Ras Kuuku, the 2020 TGMA ‘Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year,’ has shared his disappointment over the lack of recognition he and fellow musician Yaa Pono receive within the Ghanaian music industry.
In an interview on Hitz FM, Ras Kuuku voiced concerns that despite their contributions, both he and Yaa Pono continue to be overlooked.
He highlighted his role in supporting the careers of emerging artists, only to be sidelined once they rise to fame.
“There are many artists in Ghana who I helped groom, but once they made it, they didn’t recognize me,” he said.
“Even before Ebony became popular, Bullet reached out to me to collaborate with her. Yaa Pono has also done a lot for others, but he hasn’t been appreciated as he should.”
Ras Kuuku went on to assert his standing as the country’s top live performer, saying, “When it comes to performance in Ghana, I am the best. I may not have had as many opportunities to showcase this, but in live band or beat performances, no one comes close.”
