The King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, has warmly welcomed the King of Dagbon, Ndan Yaa-Naa Abubakari II, on his royal visit to the Jakpa Palace in Damongo, the Savannah Regional capital.
Delivering a speech on behalf of the Gonja Overlord, the Paramount Chief of the Kpembi Traditional Area, Kpembiwura Bismark Ndefuso-Bambange IV, described the visit as a significant step in strengthening the historical ties and unity between the Gonja and Dagbon Kingdoms.
He emphasized that the future of both great kingdoms rests in the hands of the youth and called for collaborative efforts to drive meaningful development.
He also expressed his profound gratitude to Yaa-Naa Abubakari II for honouring the visit.
Addressing the gathering through his representative, Zangbalana Yakubu Mahama, Yaa-Naa Abubakari Mahama II stated that the visit follows a similar visit by the Yagbonwura to the Dagbon Kingdom last year.
He noted that the Yagbonwura’s initiative was part of a broader vision to solidify unity among all traditional kingdoms in Northern Ghana.
The Dagbon King stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence between the Gonja and Dagomba people, urging both sides to foster harmony and understanding.
In a grand display of Dagbon’s rich culture and tradition, over 40 horses led the Yaa-Naa’s arrival in Damongo, accompanied by his eight wives, symbolizing the deep cultural heritage of the Dagomba people in Gonjaland.
Savannah Regional Minister, Esq. Salisu Be-Awurbi, speaking on behalf of President Mahama, commended both Kings for their efforts in promoting peace over the past year.
He assured them of the government’s commitment to ensuring security and resolving chieftaincy matters to support development in the region.
