World Teachers’ Day: Defilement, lack of recognition undermining teaching profession – Educationist

Renowned educationist, Isaac K. Gyasi, has cautioned teachers against indecent behaviours such as defilement, rape and others which are undermining the noble profession.

He made this known at the World Teachers day celebration Friday.

According to Mr Gyasi, a good teacher is the one who has the depth of knowledge in the subject area and is able to impact same to pupils.

Meanwhile, the National Council of Parent Teacher Associations has commended teachers for their roles in shaping the human resources in the country.

The President of the council, Alexander Yaw Danso, acknowledged the calibre of teachers in the country but decried the attitude of some who he says are bringing the name of the profession into disrepute.

This year’s theme, “The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher,” has been chosen to remind the global community that the right to education cannot be achieved without the right to trained and qualified teachers.

The celebration in Ghana which was held at Presbyterian Boys’ SHS-Legon saw Nicholas Bossey, a teacher from the Volta Region being adjudged the overall Best teacher.
