World Humanitarian Day, observed annually on August 19, was marked this year by Plan International Ghana with a one-day training session focused on addressing child protection and gender-based violence.

The event took place in Tarikom, a community within the Zebilla area of the Bawku West District in the Upper East Region.

The training aimed to enhance the knowledge of partner institutions in these critical areas, emphasizing the importance of identifying, reporting, and addressing issues related to child protection and gender-based violence.

This initiative forms part of Plan International Ghana’s ongoing commitment to support both the host community and asylum seekers in the region.

In a speech delivered on behalf of the Country Director of Plan International Ghana by Gender Specialist Madam Esenam Ahiadorme, it was highlighted that the world is witnessing an unprecedented number of displaced individuals, with over 100 million people forced to flee their homes—40% of whom are children.

Additionally, more than 200 million people are affected annually by disasters caused by natural hazards, with climate change exacerbating risks, particularly for children.

Stakeholders who participated in the training shared their positive feedback with Adom News, noting that the session was fruitful and had deepened their understanding of child protection and gender-based violence.

The training is seen as a crucial step in strengthening local mechanisms to safeguard children and vulnerable individuals in the community.
