Vice chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, Wilfred Osei Palmer has justified Ghana’s inability to qualify to the world in Russia next year.
According to him, the Black Stars paired with teams like Egypt and Uganda, ranked very high in Africa hence the poor showing.
“Football all over the world has improved and going forward we need not underestimate any African opponent. “We need to respect our opponents in every group we find ourselves in, going forward”. Palmer stated on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports show Monday.
H also cited the lack of political backing one of the things which affected the Black Stars’ world cup qualification campaign.
Mr. Palmer revealed how the former Minister  for Sports, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye frustrated all their efforts to ensure the team qualifies.
“Nii Lantey was not providing the support we needed when we begun qualification but when Hon. Asiamah took over he tried but we had already lost out. Political backing is very vital in the qualification process but the previous government did not help in that regard” he bemoaned.
Moving forward, Mr. Palmer appealed for total support from government to improve Ghana football.
Ghana failed to qualify to a fourth consecutive World cup after our maiden appearance in 2006.
Egypt, Morocco, Senegal, Nigeria and Tunisia will be the five countries to represent Africa at in Russia.
