The Greater Accra Police Command has warned members of the Committed Taxi Drivers Union who are set to embark on a demonstration tomorrow not to come along with their vehicles.
The commercial drivers are threatening to embark on a demonstration to protest the cost of fuel.
They have raised concerns about the fuel price increments, with drivers in the Volta Region recently complaining about the unannounced increment, which they said is killing their business as the increases do not always tally with transport fares.
It is against this backdrop that the drivers have sworn to embark on a demonstration tomorrow to demand a reduction in the fuel price.
The drivers threatened to demonstrate with their vehicles.
This, the Police said would not be allowed as the drivers did not notify the police that they will be embarking on a vehicular demonstration.
“We are ready to offer protection for the demonstration but we won’t allow them to make use of the cars…we have never had a vehicular demonstration and we won’t allow that…,” Greater Accra Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Afia Tengey warned on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Monday.
The Police PRO further warned the Taxi Drivers to come to the demonstration with placards as the police would not entertain any vehicle at the demonstration grounds.
“If you are going for a demonstration, just bring your placards and follow the approved route but to come with your vehicles would create problems for us and we won’t allow that…,” she said further.
