Women must be aggressive to national development

Director of National Population Council, Dr. Leticia Appiah, has charged women to be aggressive and assertive to contribute to the development of the nation.
According to her, women must take full advantage of the paradigm shift to be able to be at par with their male counterparts.
Dr. Leticia Appiah made the call on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem while discussing the impact of women in national development as Ghana joins the world to mark International Women’s Day.

The day is a dedicated by the UN as the day on which the whole world must reflect on and acknowledge not only the enormous and incalculable contributions of women to the achievement of better livelihoods for humanity but also to ponder about the travails and tribulations of women.
This year’s international women’s day celebrations focus on gender equality for women which is also captured by the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs), Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”.

Commenting on the theme for the celebration, Dr. Leticia Appiah bemoaned the disparity that exists between men and women, especially in Ghana.
She indicated that women’s exclusion from the economy is not just a developing world problem but one also found in advanced nations.
However, she urged governments to provide more opportunities and full support for women in the country.

Dr. Leticia Appiah maintained that, women are essential to development thus including them in the mainstream economy would accelerate the nation’s development.
“Excluding women from economic activity was a waste of productive resources therefore one way to include women is to narrow the gap between the rich and poor”, he added.
