There’s a life hack for just about everything these days – from freshening up stale bread to stopping flies from getting in your kitchen.
We also recently learned how to cut a perfect slice of cake and now we’ve been shown how to do the same for slices of watermelon.
The refreshing fruit makes an ideal treat during hot summer days, but can be a bit of a pain to chop up.
However, you don’t have to worry about injuring yourself while using a sharp knife to cut it for too long, as a simple trick for getting neat slices has gone viral on Reddit – and all you need is some dental floss.
Yes, a video online shows a woman ‘perfectly’ slicing up a watermelon, using only dental floss.
The video was posted to Reddit’s Life Hacks forum earlier this week.
Uploaded by a user named @eternalrefuge86, the clip shows a woman, with half a watermelon, cut lenghtways.
She takes a piece of dental floss and runs it all the way around the edge of the pink flesh, where it meets the green skin.
After doing this, she then ran the floss down into the watermelon to create several neat slices.
The post was captioned: “An easy way to slice watermelon- just be sure the floss isn’t minty!”
More than 25,000 people upvoted the post, with many commenting on the hack.
One person wrote: “Looks easier and faster than using a knife.”
Another joked that people should use minty floss, saying: “Minty floss would be delicious as well. Ever tried a watermelon mojito? Dayum tastes like summer!”
A third said that dental floss was also great for cutting cake.
A different user shared a top tip for making cinnamon buns with floss.
They explained: “This is really great for making cinnamon rolls when you are tired of them getting all squished as you cut them.
“Slide the floss under the end of the cylinder of dough. Lift just the edge of the dough to get the floss under there, then it is thin enough to slide back until you have the desired thickness for a cinnamon roll.
“Bring the two ends of the floss up and around the dough. They should end up making an X above the dough. Now pull the ends of the floss so that the X gets wider on top and the floss will cut down through the dough without squishing.
“When it gets to the bottom and exits the dough, it will also uncross itself and you are ready for the next slice.
“My aunts, Carol and Judy, been making perfect cinnamon rolls for church and family reunions for about 30 years with this method. I keep a thingy of floss in a kitchen drawer with my other prep tools so I don’t have to remember to get it from the bathroom.”138208672551
However there were some who didn’t see the point in the hack and argued you could just use a knife.
cOne baffled person asked: “Why waste time for floss when you can grab a knife from just behind you?”
