A 50-year-old woman is said to have drowned at Gumani, a community in Tamale in the Northern region.
The deceased, Hajia Fati, according to reports was swept away by the flood after a heavy downpour Tuesday.
According to Adom News’ Illiasu Abdul Rauf, the deceased was driving to pick her children from school when the incident occurred.
“Hajia Fati was warned by residents about the floods but in her attempt to park at a safe place, the flood dragged her car leading to her death” he added.
Two school are also missing and firefighters have been deployed to help local search parties look for them.
The torrential rain also caused swallow dams to overrun into the communities and washed away some buildings and causing water to flow into structures.
Communities affected are Kunyevila, Dungu, Asawaba, Shishagu, Nahada and Dungu Kukuo, Tishegu, Kukuo, Russian bungalows, Gumani where many buildings are swamped by floodwaters causing massive damage to properties.
The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed who confirmed the death said the body has been deposited at the Tamale Teaching hospital.
