A man’s bent knee in an attempt to beg for a woman’s hand in marriage is seen as a symbol of promise for many but a veteran Nigerian actor thinks the act is an abominable one.
Pete Edochie, the popular Nigerian actor, has said the act of a man kneeling before a woman in a traditional proposal setting signifies unhealthy subordination and a flout of the laws governing the Igbo Tradition.
To him, the act means “handing over authority” to the woman thereby making her the head of the family.

He explained that it is a woman’s nature to kneel before her husband as a sign of subordination and to usher her husband into her home.
“Kneeling to propose to a lady is totally wrong; it is not our lifestyle. It is a lady who kneels before her man, not vice versa,” he explained in an interview with Mazi Nwosu TV, an Igbo media outlet.
