Why Kwesi Appiah called me – Hearts defender explains

Central defender of Accra Hearts of Oak, Mohammed Alhassan, has said he was not surprised at his maiden Black Stars call up since he saw it coming based on his performance this season.

According to him, he had performed well in the ongoing Normalisation Special Competition, playing all 13 matches without receiving a single card, hence expected to be called.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s SportsNite show, the former Ashanti Gold player promised to give off his utmost best to be part of the final 23 players who will make it to the continental showpiece in Egypt.

“It is the wish of every player to be called to play for the national team. Based on my performance in the league, I was very confident I would get a national team call up.

“I am a type of player who doesn’t brag before a match, I prove my abilities on the field of play, so far as I have been called, it means the coach has seen something in me so I have to prove myself,” he told Asempa FM.

Mohammed started his football career at Eureka FC, moved to Savannah FC to Guan United, Ashanti Gold, King Faisal Babies, WAFA and finally to Hearts of Oak.

The Black Stars’ 29-man provisional squad for the 2019 Africa Nations Cup in Egypt is out; the squad features three local based players.

Felix Annan and Abdul Fatawu Shafiu are from Asante Kotoko, while Mohammed Alhassan is from Hearts of Oak.
