Why I don’t trust Akufo-Addo – Kwame A Plus [Video]

Member of Parliament(MP)-elect for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, known popularly as A Plus, is sceptical about President Akufo-Addo’s directive for all government officials to return vehicles in their possession by January 3, 2025.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, A Plus asserted that he doesn’t trust Akufo-Addo to ensure that all his appointees comply with the directive.

“I don’t trust Akufo-Addo, and I am not sure he will see to it that his people will adhere to the directive. He can later send his boys to go back for the cars. A president who was lying about the fight against illegal mining can never be trusted.

“For me, I think the directive is only for the people who are not very close to the president to hand over their vehicles so that they choose the best and share among themselves,” he claimed.

A statement signed by the Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin noted that after Akufo-Addo’s first term in 2020, a directive prohibiting Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, Special Assistants, Special Aides to the President and Vice President, and all other political appointees under the Presidential Office Act, 1993 (Act 463) from acquiring government vehicles was issued.

After the 2024 general elections, the Office has said that this directive remains in full effect “as we approach the end of the President’s second and final term”.

In this regard, all appointees have been directed to return all government vehicles in their possession to the Chief Director of the relevant Ministries no later than Friday, 3rd January 2025.

Meanwhile, Akufo-Addo and President-elect, John Mahama on Wednesday inaugurated a joint transitional team to ensure the smooth transfer of power.
