Why I don’t pity the Defence Minister – Former Minister discloses

-

Former Defence Minister and Member of Parliament for Bimbilla, Dominic Nitiwul, has stated that serving in the Ministry is a demanding role but often goes unappreciated until problems arise.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Nitiwul said he does not pity the current Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, due to the complexities of the job.

“If you are good and calm, no one notices your work. But if there is a problem tomorrow, everyone will start blaming you,” he remarked.

He cautioned that a Defence Minister’s legacy is often tied to crises rather than achievements.

“If you don’t take care and something bad happens against the government, you will not be remembered for a good reason,” he added.

Mr. Nitiwul further noted that historical records in the Defence Ministry highlight the tenure of past ministers, linking them to military coups and security crises.

“In my former office, there are records of all the Defence Ministers. If I see any minister’s name from some years back, I know those who worked and under which coup they served,” he explained.

When asked what advice he would give to Dr. Omane Boamah, he revealed that he had already met with him and shared insights on handling the position.

“I have spoken to him. This job requires sharing ideas and asking for help when necessary. That is the only way to succeed,” Mr Nitiwul advised.
