Alhaji Brimah Akanbi, a former management member of Hearts of Oak, explained that the club, in collaboration with Asante Kotoko, chose not to submit a joint petition to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following the tragic events at Nsoatreman.
The petition aimed to advocate for enhanced security measures at match venues.
After discussions with the GFA, both clubs realized that their concerns were already aligned with the GFA’s existing plans, leading them to decide against submitting the petition.
In the aftermath of the incident, the Ghana Police Service arrested six individuals, including Nsoatreman FC owner Ignatius Baffour Awuah, in connection with the death of Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw “Pooley” Frimpong.
The GFA has since taken steps to address the issue, holding a crucial meeting with Premier League club CEOs to discuss measures to prevent future violence.
This incident has underscored the urgent need for stringent security protocols at football matches to ensure the safety of players and fans alike.
