The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reiterated that the current voter register cannot be used for the December 7 polls.
In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tueday, the National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi stated that the voter register is flawed and fraught with irregularities.
According to him, the NDC’s demand is not borne out of fear that its flagbearer, John Mahama will not win the election without a forensic audit.
“The most important thing for the NDC is to ensure that the register is credible to allow every eligible voter to participate in the election,” he stated.
However, it will be in the interest of Ghanaians as it will ensure that the Electoral Commission (EC) uses a credible register that will allow a transparent, free and fair election process.
“We can’t use this register for the election because it is flawed so the election will be flawed. A lot of Ghanaians will be disenfranchised and the process will not be a free and fair process.
“Even if the concerns favour the NDC, we will raise it to ensure a credible and transparent process because it is not just about how you win and like Archbishop Duncan-Williams said how you win will determine the consequences,” he added.
The NDC since August has been raising concerns over alleged discrepancies it found in the provisional register provided to political parties during the exhibition exercise.
To intensify their pressure, the NDC on Tuesday, September 17 embarked on a mammoth nationwide demonstration which the NPP has said was unnecessary.
