Why don’t you have a Director of IT? NDC questions EC [Audio]

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has questioned why the Electoral Commission (EC) has no Director of IT at its helm of affairs.

The NDC has argued this is a crucial role which must not be overlooked.

However, they find it hard to understand why there is no such portfolio at the EC headquarters, despite the Directors for several departments.

The NDC Director of IT and Research, Dr Edward Omane Boamah raised these concerns on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday in the wake of their demands for a forensic audit into the 2024 voter register.

“The EC has Director of Electoral Services, Training, Finance and others but you ask yourself why they don’t have a Director for IT. I don’t know the history whether there has ever been one.

“But till date, they engage the services of consultants and I don’t think anyone would have complained if these consultants were doing a good job,” he stated.

According to him, the controversies surrounding the register would have been avoided if there was a Director of IT to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.

“Maybe it is not in the minds of people to rig the election but the conduct of a few raises questions yet they have refused to employ a director of IT,’ he lamented.

Meanwhile, the NDC will on September 17 embark on a nationwide demonstration at the EC’s various offices to press home their demand for an audit of the voter register.
