Why Black Stars are struggling – Osei Palmer

-

President of Tema Youth FC, Wilfred Osei Kwaku Palmer has placed the blame for the Black Stars’ recent disappointing performances on the shoulders of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

In an interview, Osei Palmer expressed his dissatisfaction with the current leadership of the GFA, accusing them of being responsible for the team’s lacklustre performance.

He argued that the GFA has failed to foster unity within the football community.

“Sometimes I wonder why people say Black Stars are suffering but the truth is that you cannot treat people like this and expect that the senior national team will prosper,” he told Asempa FM.

Osei Palmer also shared his personal frustration, revealing how he has been mistreated by the current GFA leadership.

“The team has no blessings. This is the national team that I have served and helped and this how I am being treated like this?

“I am sorry but I am pained,” he added,” he added.

The senior national team has faced significant criticism following a series of poor results.

After being eliminated in the group stages of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in back-to-back tournaments, the Black Stars also failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, marking the first time in two decades that the team will miss the tournament, which will be held in Morocco later this year.

During the qualifiers, the four-time African champions recorded three draws and three losses, finishing at the bottom of Group F with just three points after six matches.

The Black Stars will hope to turn things around when they face Chad and Madagascar in March for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, in the fifth and sixth matchdays.
