The chairman of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced the establishment of toll-free hotlines, emails, and online platforms to allow whistleblowers to report corruption anonymously.
This is aimed at creating a centralised and transparent system to gather evidence on corruption without fear of exposure.
In a radio interview with Accra-based Joy FM [Dec 18, 2024] Mr Ablakwa revealed that the ORAL team is finalising arrangements to launch multiple channels for the public to report corrupt activities.
“By tomorrow morning, we will publish toll-free hotlines and set up online platforms, including emails and websites, for people to submit information anonymously,” he said.
The President-elect, John Mahama has already elaborated on the purpose of the ORAL team at a meeting with some diplomats at his office when they called on him.
He explained that the team would act as a central point for collecting evidence on corruption. “We are receiving a lot of information about corruption scandals—some send me texts, others call or pass through intermediaries. We want a focal point where all that evidence is directed, so it can be assembled and passed on to the appropriate government institutions,” Mr Mahama said.
He assured the public that the team would not conduct investigations or operate as a witch-hunting body.
“They have no brooms to fly at night. It’s not meant to witch-hunt people,” Mahama stated, adding that all team members are serving pro bono, with no associated expenditure or budget.
The ORAL team, which held its first meeting on Wednesday have resolved to operate without financial incentives, “This is a sacrificial effort for God and country,” Mr Ablakwa said.
