The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has disputed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) claim of creating 2.1 million jobs between 2017 and 2022.
During a tour of the Ahafo Region, NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama accused the NPP of making false claims to garner votes.
The NPP has been highlighting its achievements in various sectors, including job creation, as part of its campaign for re-election.
However, Mahama argued that the unemployment rate has actually increased under the NPP, rising from 8% during the NDC’s tenure to nearly 15%.
He questioned the existence of these 2 million jobs, pointing out that many in the region have not seen the purported benefits.
Mahama also emphasized the need for a 24-hour economy to create more job opportunities for Ghanaians.
“We cannot be deceived any more. We’ll create jobs for the youth to be employed. The unemployment rate during the NDC’s government was 8%. However, the current unemployment rate under the NPP government is 14%, which is almost 15%. But this government claimed they have created over 2 million jobs,” he stated.
“I’m asking, where are the jobs? How come the people here have not benefited from them? This is a tactic to win votes. That is why the NDC government has proposed a 24-hour economy, which will create more job opportunities,” he added.
