All iPhone users who love chatting on WhatsApp must make sure they have the very latest version of the popular app installed on their devices.

The meta-owned platform has finally begun rolling out the ability to edit texts after they’ve been sent but this must-have feature only works if you have WhatsApp version 23.12.76 downloaded onto your device.

Once upgraded you’ll then get 15 minutes to make any changes which should end the nightmare of embarrassing typos. You can also add emojis, expand the conversation or completely change what was first sent if have a sudden change of mind.

Once the new version is on the device, you’ll find the option to edit messages via a long press on the text.

A list of options will then appear including Edit. Tap on this, make your changes then hit the blue tick to update what has been written.

“For the moments when you make a mistake, or simply change your mind, you can now edit your sent messages,” WhatsApp explained in a blog post.

“From correcting a simple misspelling to adding extra context to a message, we’re excited to bring you more control over your chats. All you need to do is long-press on a sent message and choose ‘Edit’ from the menu for up to fifteen minutes after.”

This update was actually announced last month but many iPhone users are only seeing the changes now with WhatsApp confirming that it’s rolling things out slowly across the globe.

To check you are running the most up-to-date version of WhatsApp, head to the App Store app on your iPhone, search for WhatsApp and tap on the application. If it shows a blue message with the word UPDATE you know you’re not running the latest version.

Tap that button and you should then get access to the new Edit option.
