The incumbent Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Ato Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has predicted that the challenges faced by the New PSatriotic Party (NPP) after their time in power will repeat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) by 2028.
He explained that, governance comes with high public expectations, which often lead to difficulties.
“What happened to us will happen to the NDC in 2028 after their four years,” he stated in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programmme Tuesday.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin expressed doubts about the NDC’s ability to fulfill their promise of running a lean government.
“The NDC has promised a lean government, but even with a majority in Parliament, they will face serious problems. The same struggles we had with getting people to the chamber, they will encounter worse” he stated.
According to the law maker, the NDC will have to contend with mounting public demands and internal tensions.
“There will be so much expectation, and there will be a struggle as those in government try to meet them,” he explained.
He also suggested that, President John Dramani Mahama could face challenges within his party.
“Mahama is likely to be a lame-duck president. There will be an internal struggle for who succeeds him, and this will create its own apathy,” Afenyo-Markin predicted.
