The Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency has responded to the grievances raised by the Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) amid their potential nationwide strike.
The workers in a statement dated September 23 Â announced the closure of all mortuaries across the country starting Thursday, September 26, 2024.
The strike is due to unresolved issues regarding their welfare, salaries, lack of PPEs and unpaid Covid-19 bonuses and employment of additional workers to ease labour.
But, the agency responsible for licensing and regulating all facilities associated with the handling and disposal of human remains, have urged the workers to exercise restraint.
In a statement, the Agency acknowledged the critical role mortuary workers play in preserving the dignity and management of human remains, indicating that their concerns are being taken seriously.
The Agency also announced that it is actively engaging with relevant stakeholders to find a mutually beneficial solution that prioritizes the welfare of the workers while safeguarding public health.
They appealed to MOWAG members to remain patient as discussions continue.
