The Wenchi Methodist Hospital in the Bono Region has announced plans to conduct a mass burial for 28 unclaimed and unidentified bodies currently stored in its morgue.
The hospital stated that the bodies have been in the morgue for nearly three years, causing congestion and affecting the facility’s operations.
In a press statement signed by Wenchi Municipal Coordinating Director Jimah Yakubu, the hospital revealed that the unclaimed bodies had been obstructing the smooth functioning of the morgue.
Health Risks and Burial Notice
The statement announced: “It is for the information of the general public, especially families with missing persons, that the Environmental Health Unit of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly and the management of the Wenchi Methodist Hospital are preparing to conduct a burial for 28 unidentified individuals.”
The bodies have been in the morgue for almost three years, hindering smooth operations. Despite several attempts to reach out to the public for identification and collection, there has been no success.
In light of these challenges and potential health risks, a mass burial will take place after one week, from Thursday, January 23, 2025, to Friday, January 31, 2025, to decongest the morgue.
The statement urged concerned families or individuals to contact the hospital before the deadline for identification and collection of the bodies.
It concluded by urging the public to cooperate with both the hospital and the assembly to ensure proper identification and dignified burial arrangements for the deceased.
