The Minister-Designate for Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has pledged to address concerns about fairness and inclusivity in the recruitment process for Ghana’s security services by reviewing the regional quota system.
During his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 24, Muntaka emphasized his commitment to ensuring equity and transparency in the recruitment process, stressing the need for inclusivity to reflect the country’s diverse makeup.
He expressed concern over instances where minority groups have been sidelined, leaving opportunities to disproportionately benefit the majority.
Mr. Muntaka assured the Committee of his intention to work closely with the leadership of the security services to review and improve the process.
“I’m going to a ministry that has a lot of professionals who are experts in their fields. You cannot doubt the expertise of the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of Ghana Prisons, and others. I will be a team member working with them to evaluate how recruitment has been done over the last 30 to 40 years under the Fourth Republic,” Muntaka stated.
“If there are lapses, we will identify them and implement changes in the best interest of the country,” he added.
