Founder of the political movement, the New Force, Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, has promised to revamp the country’s railway system if elected President in the December election.
During his policy launch on Sunday, Cheddar announced plans to develop a railway network exceeding 8,000 kilometers.
“Our vision is to develop a comprehensive railway network exceeding 8,000 kilometers that is 1.5 million tonnes of steel,” he stated.
To achieve this, he said Ghana’s iron ore resources, particularly from the Eastern Region, will be used to manufacture steel domestically.
This approach he acknowledged would save billions of dollars that would otherwise be spent on foreign contracts.
He also touched on the strategic significance of building the Eastern and Western corridors and extending the railway to the country’s borders with Togo, Burkina Faso, and Ivory Coast.
These railway trucks he noted would reach the borders of the neighbouring country for its government to see to its completion.
“This vision represents a new transportation and logistical pathway, moving beyond the colonial roads built for us. We are creating our own path to distribute our goods,” he said.
