We won’t be reckless – Finance Minister assures banks

The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson (MP), has reassured banks that the government is committed to responsible economic management and will avoid the financial instability witnessed in 2022.

In a meeting with over 22 Managing Directors of banks, Dr. Forson emphasized that lessons learned from past economic challenges would guide the government’s future actions, ensuring measures are in place to foster stability and growth.

He highlighted the importance of maintaining fiscal discipline, stressing that reckless financial decisions would not be tolerated as the government works to restore confidence in the banking sector and the broader economy.

Dr. Forson underscored the need for a coordinated policy approach to guarantee sustainable growth, protect the financial system from future crises, and promote economic resilience.

He called on banks to collaborate closely with the government to implement strategies that enhance liquidity, encourage investment, and strengthen Ghana’s financial system.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to creating a stable economic environment, Dr. Forson assured banking executives that policies would be carefully crafted to support long-term stability, ensuring the financial sector’s strength and its contribution to national development.
