We won't apologise to Kofi Adams - CID

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has said that they won't apologise to the National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams for seizing his vehicles.

The CID, on Thursday released the five vehicles it confiscated from Kofi Adams.

According to them, the Police released the five vehicles belonging to Kofi Adams after investigations revealed that the cars did not belong to the state.

The vehicles; two land cruisers and three pick-ups, were seized following allegations that some officials of the previous government had taken away some state assets including vehicles.

But Kofi Adams, who was also the campaign coordinator of the 2016 Mahama campaign asked the Police to return his seized cars because they were wrongfully and unlawfully seized, hence should be returned.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the CID, ASP Joseph Benefo Darkwah who disclosed this said his outfit had a duty to investigate the matter and after investigations, they came to the conclusion that the vehicles do not belong to the state.

According to him, Kofi Adams willingly brought his cars to be investigated.

The CID PRO however said that the police had a duty to investigate the issue and hence won't apologise to Kofi Adams after the seizure.

“After investigations, we realized that the cars were actually not for the state but for Kofi Adams. We followed due process and did everything lawfully and so I don’t think we owe him any apology.

“We didn’t manhandle him. If anyone needs to apologise to him, then it should be those who stormed his house and seized his cars and not us,” he said on Accra-based Neat FM.
