Majority shareholder of Ashanti Gold football club, Nana Achiken has vowed to help restore the club to its glory days.
The president and bank roller of Achiken Football Club together with Dr. Kwaku Frimpong of Champion Divine Clinic after acquiring 99 percent of the club’s shares have both pledged to save it from its dwindling fortunes.
Both business magnates will now be the forerunners of the club, leaving former owners, AngloGold Ashanti with just 1%.
“We are here to help raise the club again; we hope to get massive support from everyone to help realize this vision. We aim to rejuvenate the support base of the club (Shaft) and to see them function even better than in the 90’s. This is clearly our vision for the club for the coming years,” he said on HOT FM.
According to Mr. Achiken, the new owners have plans to unveil the club’s new players on Thursday to the fans in Obuasi and also showcase the extensive renovation works at the Len Clay stadium.
Ashgold finished 12th in the 2016/2017 season and were last crowned champions in the 2014/15 season.
