The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has disclosed that the association made significant efforts to retain Nora Hauptle as the head coach of the Black Queens.
Hauptle, who was appointed in 2023, decided not to renew her contract with the Black Queens, paving the way for her appointment as the head coach of Zambia’s Copper Queens on a three-year deal.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Asante Twum revealed that the Swiss coach declined a contract extension despite the GFA offering a 50% salary increment.
Hauptle, however, demanded a 100% increase, which the GFA could not meet.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) met Nora Hauptle to discuss a possible extension of her contract and with the offer we presented to her, she was demanding a 100 per cent increment but we offered her 50 per cent since it was the FA who has been paying her since her appointment,” Asante Twum said.
“We tried our best to extend her contract but she was unwilling to accept what we presented. And being a professional coach, she had the right to walk away since her contract had ended,” he added.
During her tenure, Hauptle led the Black Queens to qualify for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which will be held in Morocco. Her departure leaves a void in the team as they prepare for the tournament.
