We spend GHȼ400 weekly on water – Krachi SHS headmaster

As Krachi Senior High School (SHS) celebrates its 50th anniversary, the atmosphere is bittersweet as it faces numerous infrastructure challenges.

While the milestone is a cause for celebration, the headmaster, Smith Kofi Kpebu, has raised urgent concerns about their dire conditions.

The school was established as one of the Ghana Education Trust Schools in September 1971 and has not witnessed any significant infrastructure improvement despite its academic successes.

In a heartfelt address, Mr Kpebu highlighted the pressing need for basic amenities, including water, furniture, and beds, which are essentially for the well-being and education of the students.

According to the headmaster, water supply to the school continues to be a challenge as they spend GHȼ400 every week to enable the kitchen prepare meals for the students.

This is a drain on the scarce, perishable money provided by government for feeding students.

He noted that the situation was impacting negatively on academic activities in the school, forcing students to walk long distances to town and sometimes to the Volta Lake to fetch water which makes it difficult to maintain discipline.

The headmaster also pointed out that school also lack fence wall which poses a great threat to the school security community resorting indiscipline among students who have taken advantage of the lack of fence and created unapproved routes through which they escaped to town without permission.

He appealed to all stakeholders and the government to assist the school construct a fence wall, so as to safeguard students and staff and also guaranteed them of a safe and sound environment for academic works.

Students have echoed the headmaster’s concerns, expressing their frustration over the inadequate facilities.

They appealed to old students, community members and the government to come to their aid by providing them with adequate infrastructure to promote academic development.

However, the of Old Students Association (KOSA) led by Brigadier General Albert Dawohosu promised their support towards the school development.

They also encouraged the students to take their studies serious despite the challenges facing the school, so they can achieve success.
