The Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, has disclosed that the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) received over US$3 million for its coverage of the 2023 All African Games.
Ghana hosted the 13th edition of the African Games from March 8 to March 23, 2024, with the events being broadcast live by GBC, the state-owned broadcasting company.
During a session with the Public Accounts Committee on Monday, August 19, 2024, Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament, Sam George, questioned the Sports Minister about the specific charges GBC levied for the broadcast services.
In response, Mustapha Ussif confirmed, “GBC was the official broadcaster for the 13th African Games, and we can confirm that full payment has been made to GBC.
“I can’t recall the exact amount, but I know it is in excess of US$3 million,” he added.
Sam George has pledged to further investigate the matter when GBC officials appear before the Committee.

The Ghanaian government invested US$195 million in constructing facilities for the 2023 African Games. Additionally, the state provided accommodation and meals for athletes and officials from participating nations.
Ghana secured a total of 69 medals during the 2023 African Games.
