Black Satellites coach, Desmond Ofei, has emphasized the importance of capitalizing on the positives from the 2024 WAFU B U-20 Championship while addressing areas for improvement ahead of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next year.
Ghana’s U-20 team secured second place in the recently concluded tournament in Togo, despite a 2-1 loss to Nigeria in the final.
Although they fell short of winning the title, the Black Satellites have secured a spot in the upcoming AFCON.
“If you arrive in a final, you want to win the final, but it didn’t happen. Like I said before, we have to build on the positives and correct our mistakes [ahead of the 2025 U-20 AFCON],” Ofei said.
The coach also highlighted the wealth of talent in Ghana, noting that several players from the second division were part of the squad.
“We have a lot of talent in the country, including players who also play in the second tier in Ghana.
“In terms of talent, we had like six, seven, or eight players from the second division, which shows the quality we have in the country,” he added.
While the date for the 2025 U-20 AFCON remains to be confirmed, the Black Satellites are already focused on continuing their preparations for the tournament.
