We have FIFA-standard pitches – Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif

-

Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has disclosed that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has not yet responded to Ghana’s request to inspect the Accra and Cape Coast stadiums as potential venues for the Black Stars’ upcoming home match.

This comes after CAF revoked the approval for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to host international games, citing the pitch as unplayable for category 3 matches.

As a result, the Black Stars are searching for a new venue to host their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan.

Speaking to Parliament’s Sports Select Committee on Tuesday, September 24, Ussif addressed concerns over the availability of FIFA-standard pitches in Ghana.

He refuted claims that the country lacks such facilities, affirming that Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast have top-class stadiums.

“It’s not that we don’t have FIFA-standard pitches in Ghana; we do have FIFA-standard pitches in Cape Coast, Accra, and Kumasi,” he said.

“It is not true that we lack FIFA-standard stadiums in Ghana. It is up to CAF to decide. We have written to them to request an inspection of the Accra Sports Stadium and Cape Coast Sports Stadium, and they have yet to respond,” he added.

As the Black Stars prepare to face Sudan, the venue remains undecided, though reports indicate the match may be played in Ivory Coast.
