Victims of the recent fire outbreak at Adum in Kumasi have rejected a donation from the Interior Minister and Asawase Member of Parliament (MP), Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak.
The donation, presented on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, included 1,500 bags of rice, 800 boxes of cooking oil, and soap.
However, the dissatisfied traders stated that they did not immediately need those items. To further express their displeasure, they chanted “Yempɛ ɛmo,” meaning “We don’t want rice.”
In a related development, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accompanied by some New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives and members, visited the victims on Tuesday.
The 2024 NPP flagbearer promised to support them with GH₵200,000 and bags of cement to aid in reconstruction.
The blaze, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, March 21, destroyed several shops and properties, leaving many traders in distress.
