We don’t have evidence to prosecute people involved in ‘galamsey’ – NPP Youth Organiser [Video]

The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Salam Mustapha has said the Akufo-Addo led government is committed to the fight against galamsey.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday, Mr Mustapha admitted that some politicians, traditional leaders, and clergymen among others are involved in the menace.

However, their hands appeared tied due to the lack of evidence to facilitate the prosecution of the people involved.

“Nobody is above the law but how do you get them? When you go to court, you must be able to provide evidence because if you don’t have it, the person will be let go,” he said.

He noted that, the fight against galamsey cannot be won unless with a nationalistic approach and political will.

“We need a nationalistic approach to fight the menace because the NPP cannot be committed while the NDC goes about making promises which will cost the NPP our seats.

We had never lost Prestea-Huni Valley seat but we did because of galamsey. The NDC went about promising amnesty which casts the NPP in a bad sight,” he added.
