Heart of Lions head coach, Bashir Hayford, has stated that his team is not focused on winning the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League title, despite their strong position in the standings.
The Kpando-based side has had an impressive run, with nine wins, six draws, and three losses after 18 matches, placing them third on the league table with 33 points.
Although they are currently among the top four teams, Hayford emphasized that the club’s goal is not to secure the league title.
“The expectation now is very high because of the change in position,” Hayford said.
“The playing body has decided not to repeat what happened to us last season. We will try and win our matches, and at the end of it all, if we are able to amass points that can win us the league, so be it.”
“We have not targeted the league title. We are not sticking our necks out and saying we are winning the league. From being a relegation-haunted team to being in the top four is okay,” he added.
Heart of Lions will face Hearts of Oak in their Matchday 19 clash, set for Friday night at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, with kick-off at 19:00 GMT.
