Karela United assistant coach, Abukari Damba, has stated that the team is focusing on recruiting young, ambitious players rather than signing established stars.
Following the release of the fixtures for the upcoming 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, Damba emphasized the club’s commitment to its development philosophy, especially after narrowly avoiding relegation last season.
He made it clear that, Karela United will not succumb to pressure to acquire already successful players but instead has brought in fresh talent eager to make an impact in the league.
“We cannot compare ourselves to other teams, as each club has its own philosophy, culture, and financial resources. As a developing club, we believe in nurturing talent, so we won’t be signing established players,” Damba told Asempa FM on the Ultimate Sports Show.
He expressed confidence in the talents identified during the previous season.
“We have been monitoring players in the lower divisions and are pleased with our recruits. It’s not just about a player’s performance; we also evaluate their attitude and readiness to compete because we seek ambitious individuals” he stated.
Damba is optimistic about the new lineup, saying, “So far, we are happy with what we have, as we’ve acquired players ready to leave their mark.”
As the season is set to commence on September 6, Karela United will kick off their campaign with a home match against Asante Kotoko at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.
