President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku has praised his administration for significantly improving the performance of various national teams.
Under his leadership, the Black Stars competed in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) last year, while the Black Queens have made a comeback to the continental stage for the first time since 2018.
The Black Princesses and the Black Satellites both earned gold medals at the 2023 African Games, with the Black Princesses also securing a spot in the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
At the GFA’s 30th Ordinary Congress on Tuesday, August 27, Mr Okraku commended the teams achievements and set a goal for the Black Stars to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
“We have made strides in our national team performances with the qualifications to the WAFCON, to the men’s AFCON and at the moment, we are in a good position in our determination to qualify to the [2026] World Cup,” he said.
Currently, the Black Stars are in second place in Group I of the World Cup Qualifiers, tied on points with Comoros, who lead the group.
Next month, the senior national team will begin their 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign with matches against Angola and Niger.
