The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, paid a visit to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, along with the chiefs and elders of Asanteman on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

Visuals of the event captured the former president being warmly received by a crowd as he arrived with his entourage at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

Mahama was joined by key NDC figures from the Ashanti Region, including former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Betty Mould-Iddrisu, former Commissioner of Police, Kofi Boakye, and the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi.

Addressing the Asantehene, Mahama stated that his visit was to seek prayers and blessings ahead of the December 7, 2024, elections, as part of his six-day campaign in the Ashanti Region.

He expressed gratitude to the king for granting his team permission to campaign within the kingdom.

Mahama also highlighted his administration’s achievements in the Ashanti Region and criticised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for leaving many of his projects incomplete.

Additionally, he condemned the current administration for the economic challenges facing the nation, asserting that he is best suited to lead Ghana out of the crisis.

In response, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II welcomed the former president’s visit with great delight. He emphasized the significance of Asanteman’s involvement in Ghana’s leadership, stating that no one can become the nation’s leader without their engagement.

The Asantehene encouraged Mahama to continue informing Ghanaians about his accomplishments and his vision for the country.

Praying for a peaceful and fair election, Otumfuo stressed that the true decision must be made at the polling stations, not through underhanded tactics.

The king blessed the former president, asking for divine favour in his pursuits and praying for the fulfillment of his aspirations.
